Kirli was awarded a NSW Department of Education Scholarship in 2008, after graduating with Honours in Primary Education at UOW, she was permanently appointed to a classroom teacher position at Fairy Meadow Demonstration School in 2013. At Fairy Meadow, Kirli was an active member of the Aboriginal Education Committee, Mathematics committee and a PSSA coach for soccer and hockey. 2016 saw Kirli work predominantly as a Senior Education Officer (SEO) for the NSW Department of Education. As a SEO she worked closely with NSW public schools and Aboriginal not-for-profit groups including AIME and Pathways to Dreaming as well as with Universities around the country to encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to teach in NSW public schools. Kirli was an interviewer for Aboriginal Teacher Scholarships in 2015 and 2016. She also developed and lead extensive NESA accredited professional learning in this role for teachers and pre-service teachers. Kirli similarly created and delivered Aboriginal Cultural Understanding resources and professional development sessions for the Human Resources team at NSW Department of Education.

Kirli has lead poetic learning workshops for Red Room Poetry in a number of public schools and educational communities. Throughout the last year, she has worked predominantly with students of refugee backgrounds and First Nations students to encourage self-expression and meaningful literacy learning. Her largest workshop was a virtual collaboration with the NSW Premiers Reading Challenge Indigenous Story Telling that reached 10, 200 students. She has also delivered creative learning workshops with Reconciliation Council NSW, Royal Botanical Gardens, NSW and Victoria and the Stella Prize for Girls Write Up.

Since April 2017, as the Manager of Poetic Learning  at  Red Room Poetry, Kirli has coordinated 580 workshops for over 23,500 students in 480 education settings including schools, correctional centers and juvenile justice centers across Australia and NZ. She has also provided extensive professional development to teachers through the AATE, ETA and PETA. As the First Nations Cultural Liaison at Red Room Poetry she has created a Reconciliation Action Plan, and created and delivered cultural competencies training for staff. She has also implemented Acknowledgment of Country practices across the company as well as ‘Gadigal Word of the Week’ to share and celebrate First Languages.
